Match Play. Red leads 7-4 to 9. How should Red play 61?
Clearly the six is 13/7*.
Equally clearly Red cannot afford to play 4/3 with the ace. He has too much work to do to win the position. The 4-pt must remain slotted.
As White has fourteen checkers in his attack zone Red should not split his rear checkers and give White counter-attacking possibilities. It is much better to resolve the forward position, i.e. make the 4-pt, before moving those rear checkers.
The correct move, therefore, is: 13/12, 13/7*. Note that 13/7*, 5/4 is also perfectly OK.
Hi Chris. So, which is it to be, for the 1?
I am sure that you meant to rule out 4/3 rather than 5/4.
I do feel that 13/12 is too loose at this score, so have we gone for 6/5?
Kind regards, Sid.
