Match Play. Red leads 5-4 to 9. How should Red play 41?
Hitting here is way too risky. Any three from White and the game and the gammon are up for grabs and a gammon loss get Red tariling at Crawford. Definitely not a good idea.
So strong is White’s board that Red should not even leave a fly shot if he can avoid it and he should continue to play that way. The best two plays are 18/17, 8/4 and 15/14, 8/4
Even 15/11, 8/7 is very nearly an error.
