Match Play. Red trails 0-2 to 11. How should Red play 61?

 

The keys here are twofold. Escape a checker with 21/15* and then make the third back game point with 23/22. Hitting twice with either 15/14* or 6/5* are both mega blunders. At this point Red does not want to slow down White’s forward progress.


After 23/22, 21/15* Red will win nearly 40% of the time but he must protect his timing as far as he can.
