Match Play. Red trails 3-5 to 7. How should Red play 65?

All the plays are very close here and an initial evaluation give 20/9 as the best play. However, a long rollout has 20/15, 7/1 as the top move. 20/15 puts pressure on White’s 15-pt whereas 20/9 takes the pressure off. That difference, coupled with Red’s strong home board swings the answer to 20/15, 7/1.

Note that 7/1, 6/1 is the wrong idea. In the event of a hit Red will need his strong home board.
