Match Play. Red leads 4-1 to 5. How should Red play 63?

At this score (and even for money), Red cannot afford to give up White’s bar-point with 18/9*. That would be backgammon suicide.

It is much better to expose two home board blots with 8/2, 6/3, leaving the minimum 20 shots. If one of the blots is hit Red still has White’s bar-point as an escape tunnel.

Hitting 18/9* is worse than a quadruple blunder!
