Match Play. Red trails 4-5 to 7. Should Red double? If doubled, should White take?
Once again, the score is the deciding factor. For money a win rate of just over 60% is not enough to justify doubling but the 17% gammons pushes this into doubling territory at this 3-away vs 2-away score.
The position demonstrates the power of the solid four-point prime against multiple rear checkers. While Red should have no trouble moving his rear checkers the same cannot be said for White, especially if the blot on White’s 9-pt is sent to the bar.
I correctly found this double over the board and my opponent correctly took. Not doubling this position is a blunder and likewise dropping is also a blunder.
