Match Play. Red trails 0-1 to 11. Should Red redouble to 8? If redoubled, should White take?
The old adage is that all prime versus prime positions are doubles and takes. This is no exception. It is a redouble (just) and a trivial take. If the score was 0-0 this would be no redouble. The problem is that you have to be familiar with this type of position to get anywhere close to the correct answer, as at first sight Red’s position is very powerful. However, one bad roll (for example double fives) can destroy his position.
I was White and world number 2, Michy, was Red. He redoubled and I took. I very nearly won a gammon!
