Match Play. Red trails 2-4 to 7. How should Red play 53?

Red should hit the blot which takes away as much timing from White as possible. That makes bar/20, 16/13* the clear and obvious play.

He could try bar/20, 19/16 but White will just hit him again in his board. He does better to be the one doing the hitting.

Any play other than bar/20, 16/13* is a blunder.
