Match Play. 1-1 to 7. Should Red redouble? If redoubled should White take?
For money this is a big redouble and an easy take as Red has few spare pips to play before his board crashes if he cannot escape the rear checker.
At this match score Red should hold on to the cube. There are two reasons for this: a) if he redoubles and wins a gammon he will have nine points – two points more than he needs. This is called overage and should be avoided; b) holding a four cube White will be redoubling much earlier than usual. For example, If Red rolls 55 (12/2, 6/1(2) White already has a borderline redouble to 8 (while it would be a beaver for money).
Once again, the match score heavily influences the correct cube action.
