The correct time to double a back game is when you only have three points to clear in front of the back game player’s most advanced anchor. At that point most positions are doubles and takes.
However, the back game player must be able to contain a hit checker, and so his home board needs to be nigh on perfect. In this position White has a gap on his 4-pt and although he may make that point there is no guarantee that he will.
That turns a close take into a close pass. This is a useful reference position and reinforces the need to make your home board points in order when playing a back game.
