Match Play. Red leads 3-1 to 7. Should Red double? If doubled, should White take?
This is a double and a take for money and, perhaps surprisingly, the score doesn’t make that much difference in the match situation.
Dropping would be a double blunder. White has an anchor and all his checkers in play. The position is not very volatile, so the double is based upon the overall strength of Red’s position.
The double is clear but not doubling is only a small error, again due to the lack of volatility.
Interestingly if you take the checker on White’s 23-pt and put it on his 24-pt the position becomes a massive pass. As Bill Robertie says, “everything matters”.
