Match Play. 2-2 to 13. Should Red double? If doubled, should White take?
A fascinating position that most people get wrong, one way or the other.
It is highly volatile. When Red rolls a five he will often win a gammon but if not White has all his checkers in play and can quickly turn the tables. Even if all else fails White has an ace-point game to fall back on.
All this adds up to a mandatory double, not doubling is nearly a double blunder. That bit is easy. The take turns out to be trivial which is perhaps not so obvious. Dropping this would be a triple blunder.
