This is a classic pay-me-now or pay-me-later position.
Everything is in favour of paying now with 9/7. 9/6 (which is better than 9/4).
6/1 is nearly a triple blunder. Red must pay now before White’s home board improves. It is hard to make a play that leaves a double shot, but fours are duplicated and Red must make the play that maximises his equity. 9/7, 9/6 is the correct move by a long, long way.
