This is the follow-up to Position 206. It is too early for Red to hit with 21/12*. When playing a back game you need to have a board capable of containing a hit checker. That is not the case here.
Red could happily have another checker sent back to improve his timing and so the correct play is 13/4*, preserving all his options, including occasionally winning by going forward.
