Match Play. DMP. How should Red play 54?

Immediate shots can be minimised by playing 16/7 but that is a short-term plan.

Red is ahead in the race and should race by playing 23/14. This leaves more shots but White may have to give up his mid-point to hit. The play keeps the rear checkers connected and solves (hopefully) the problem of the checker on the 23-pt which otherwise is stranded.

This type of play was not common until the advent of the bots. They clearly demonstrated that this is the correct technique in this type of position. Any play other than 23/14 is a blunder.
