Match Play. Red trails 2-3 to 7. Should Red redouble? If redoubled, should White take?

For money a redouble here would be grossly premature – a double blunder. Red has much work to do and his fragile partial prime could disappear next move.

As usual the match score completely changes things and now not redoubling is a double blunder. In fact, White only just has a take. In live play, my opponent, fearing a gammon and loss of the match, dropped my redouble. With the cube on 4 losing a gammon becomes irrelevant to Red.

If White takes and loses he will trail 3-6 (Crawford) and you don’t want to be on an odd number as the trailer when you reach the Crawford Game.

The position is highly volatile as both home boards could very quickly collapse and hence the justification for the redouble now.
