Match Play. Red trails 2-5 to 7. Should Red double? If doubled, should White take?
It is only the score that makes this a double. A doubled gammon gets Red to the Crawford Game and that is a huge reward, worth the risk.
In an unlimited game this would be no double/easy take. It would be a double blunder to cube this. As it is at the match score it would be a blunder not to double while dropping would be a quadruple blunder – Red still has a huge amount of work to do to win the game.
My startlingly-correct response to this problem seems to have vanished into the Ether!
