Match Play. Red leads 3-2 to 11. How should Red play 41?
I don’t think this problem is particularly easy.
Red’s position runs the danger of crashing and he doesn’t have the timing for a back game.
Over the board 24/23, 5/1* was tried but that was too ambitious. Red should play this as 5-pt holding game and after 24/20, preparing to run that checker the only sensible ace is 6/5. If he can then run one of the checkers on White’s 5-pt his position will be fine. After 24/23, 5/1* his fours could cause him severe problems. That play is a double blunder while 6/1* is merely a single blunder. The hit does nothing as Red doesn’t have the ammunition for an attack.
Ugly as it looks 24/20, 6/5 is the correct play.
