Match Play. 2-2 to 7. Should Red redouble to 4? If redoubled, should White take?
For money this is a narrow pass.
At the match score if Red wins a gammon he wastes three points so the decision is much closer and, in fact, either redoubling or redoubling are both correct. It is an easy take because of the wastage noted above and dropping would be a 2.5 blunder.
I had this position in an online match and wasn’t sure what to do. I therefore applied Woolsey’s Law. My opponent correctly took and I promptly rolled double threes, winning a gammon and the match. Fortune favours the brave!
