Match Play. 0-0 to 5. How should Red play 33?

Given Red’s crunched board he cannot play this move passively.

He needs to create time to free his rear checkers.

21/15(2) is a reasonable play but still an error. Red must try to improve his board to create the required time. The only move to do that is the double tiger play, 21/18, 21/15, 8/5*.

Before the age of computers not one player in a thousand would have made that play. Nowadays at least a small percentage would understand the requirements of the position and make the right play. Such is progress.
