Match Play. 6-6 to 13. Should Red redouble? If redoubled, should White take?

A massively volatile position. Red could win or lose a gammon.

The market loss after a six is huge so Red must double (he’s not too good). Not doubling is worse than a double bunder.

Equally well if Red doesn’t quickly roll a six his position will self -destruct and White can easily win a gammon. Dropping is nearly a double blunder as well. So, big double, big take.

Homework: how far back do you need to move the checker on Red’s 7-pt before White must pass. I’ll leave you to work that one out, but the result is instructive.
